Accounting Team Lead / Senior Accountant (Czech Accounting & Tax)

For our client, a well-established Czech accounting and tax services company, we are looking for an experienced Accounting Team Lead / Senior Accountant for an office-based role in Prague.

This is a hybrid role combining approximately 50% team leadership and 50% hands-on Senior Accountant responsibilities.

The Team Lead will be responsible for managing an assigned accounting team while also handling their own portfolio of clients or accounting areas at a senior level. The role combines people and operational management with strong hands-on expertise in Czech accounting and tax legislation.

About Our Client

Our client is a Czech company providing outsourced accounting, bookkeeping, tax support, and business services to Czech and international clients.

The company has 19 years of experience in the Czech market, supports more than 350 permanent clients, and has a team of 15 professional accountants. Its clients include Czech companies, international businesses, entrepreneurs, and expatriates operating in the Czech Republic.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management — approximately 50%

  • Be responsible for achieving team goals within the scope of the Team Lead role.
  • Monitor team capacity, workload, priorities, deadlines, and operational risks.
  • Continuously assess whether the team is completing assigned work on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Identify and escalate risks or issues related to client service delivery in a timely manner.
  • Escalate internal team issues requiring involvement from the COO or CEO.
  • Work closely with the COO and CEO on setting priorities and improving the overall performance of the accounting department.
  • Participate in developing and improving accounting department processes.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or improve processes and reduce operational workload.
  • Promote consistent use of internal tools, methodologies, checklists, and automated controls.
  • Provide professional and process-related support to team members within the scope of the role.
  • Support or coordinate more complex client communication when necessary.
  • Escalate complex accounting or tax matters beyond the regular Senior Accountant level to the company’s internal tax advisor.
  • Ensure that onboarding of new team members follows the approved training plan.
  • Make sure new employees have an onboarding plan or checklist and that key onboarding checkpoints are reviewed.
  • Provide new team members with professional guidance, feedback, and confirmation of correct working procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment together with the COO and CEO by providing professional input, candidate feedback, and assessment of team needs.
  • Manage the offboarding process for employees leaving the team.

Senior Accountant Responsibilities—approximately 50%

  • Independently manage assigned clients or accounting areas.
  • Be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of accounting outputs for assigned clients or areas.
  • Prepare or review more complex accounting activities, including VAT, period-end and year-end closing activities, inventory reconciliations, reporting, and other senior-level accounting tasks.
  • Review the work of junior accountants for assigned clients or accounting areas.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding assigned accounting matters.
  • Maintain and update client-specific accounting methodologies and working procedures.
  • Use internal tools, methodologies, and automated controls consistently.
  • Manage full-cycle accounting for Czech legal entities in accordance with Czech accounting standards and current legislation.
  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements and accounting reports.
  • Work with VAT returns, kontrolní hlášení, souhrnné hlášení, and other statutory reporting where applicable.

The Team Lead performs Senior Accountant responsibilities primarily for their own assigned clients or accounting areas. For other clients handled by the team, the role focuses on managerial oversight of risks, capacity, escalations, and compliance with established processes rather than detailed review of every individual engagement.

Required Skills

  • 6+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including substantial experience with Czech accounting.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Czech accounting standards and Czech tax legislation.
  • Several years of experience working with Czech tax regulations, including practical work with VAT and corporate income tax matters.
  • Experience managing full-cycle accounting for Czech legal entities.
  • Strong knowledge of monthly and annual closing processes, statutory financial statements, and Czech reporting requirements.
  • Previous experience as a Senior Accountant, Lead Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, or Accounting Team Lead.
  • Experience managing, supervising, mentoring, or coordinating the work of other accountants.
  • Ability to act as an internal expert and support colleagues with more complex accounting and tax-related cases.
  • Experience monitoring team workload, deadlines, quality, and operational risks.
  • Ability to combine hands-on accounting responsibilities with team leadership.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy, responsibility, and independence.
  • Czech — B2+ level, including confident professional communication and accounting terminology.
  • English — B2+ level for communication with international clients and colleagues.

Will Be a Plus

  • Russian at B2 level or higher due to the company’s multilingual client base and international team.
  • Czech tax advisor or accounting qualification/certification.
  • Experience working in outsourced accounting, accounting advisory, or professional services.
  • Experience with international clients or companies with foreign ownership.
  • Experience improving, digitizing, or automating accounting processes.

The Company Offers

  • A senior role combining accounting expertise and team leadership.
  • The opportunity to become a key internal expert for an experienced accounting team.
  • Work with an established portfolio of Czech and international clients.
  • Direct cooperation with the COO, CEO, and experienced tax professionals.
  • The opportunity to influence accounting processes, methodologies, automation, and internal standards.
  • Hybrid work format: regular office presence is required, with up to 2 remote workdays per week; 4 days per week in the Prague office is preferred.
  • Compensation based on professional experience and interview results.
